Russia–Ukraine war
Russia's full-scale invasion continues into its fifth year with no ceasefire. Front lines moved little in mid-2026 while Russian drone, missile and glide-bomb attacks pushed civilian casualties to their highest levels since 2022. Ukraine keeps striking Russian oil refineries. US-mediated talks in September 2026 made little progress over territorial demands.

US envoys Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv in early September 2026. Russia demands Ukrainian withdrawal from all of Donbas and parts of Zaporizhzhia, which Kyiv rejects. A US-announced energy-strike moratorium on 14 September was not confirmed by either side.
